Improving Your Business With Google Analytics

Google Analytics

Here at DSM Design we use Google Analytics to monitor your business’ online performance. But why is it essential to use this platform and how will it benefit the future of your company?

What Is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free data collecting system that allows businesses to store and analyse their onsite traffic. Over 50 million websites rely on Google Analytics to help track their digital marketing performance and is a great method to use when making improvements to any site!

Benefits of Using Google Analytics

Google Analytics records data from a huge range of platforms. The following information can benefit your business and allow you to emphasise any areas that receive the most traffic by improving content, navigation and features throughout your website. This will help to create better online ranking and user engagement!

New and Returning Users

Google Analytics uses random, unique IDs and browser cookies on each website. Because of this, the Google software can differentiate between new and returning users. This helps businesses analyse how many visitors are regular to your site, therefore showing that your online performance is generating a positive operational system for users to continuously navigate through. It is also important to create fresh content for new users, making them more likely to become loyal customers to your company.

Customised Reports

Google Analytics provides businesses with the facilities to create custom reports. By filtering the data, you are essentially giving Google Analytics rules to follow. This allows businesses to define groups of metric data such as user interest, device and age to focus specifically on what their company incentives are. Google Analytics also has a specific feature that allows businesses to monitor their progress towards these goals.

Bounce Rate

Bounce rate is one of the most important metrics collected by Google Analytics for websites. This defines the figure of users that are leaving your website without engaging. It is important for businesses to receive a high conversion rate, where users become customers. By using the bounce rate data, businesses can see why and where a bounce rate has appeared and adjust any relevant content accordingly. This will, in turn, improve user engagement and online ranking!

Social Media Reporting

As well as website analysis, Google Analytics also allows businesses to collect data from social media accounts. This is a great feature and helps to show businesses which of their socials are generating more traffic and user engagement. They can then use this information to target these platforms as a way of improving site revenue and traffic to site.

Tracking Codes

Google Analytics integrates tracking codes into websites that then records user activity and data such as age, gender and interests. The collected data is then converted into dimensions and imported to the main server after each end of session. Google Analytics combines these dimensions using four levels:

User Level

User level provides information relating to the actions performed by each user. Google Analytics can also collect data showing what device the user is navigating from as well as their location.

Session Level

As simple as it says, this allows businesses to analyse how long each session lasts, showing the time a user has spent on a campaign or website.

Page-view Level

Google Analytics can also record what pages are being visited by users. This is a great indication for businesses to find out which of their pages are being viewed more regularly and therefore, which ones are the most popular.

Event Level

Event level shows how many clicks have been generated during a session. These can be links, video views or page clicks.
